Slovaks rank more or less average among EU citizens when it comes to their attitudes to alcohol consumption, according to a Eurobarometer survey released on Wednesday, April 21. The poll canvassed the opinions of 27,000 people across the European Union in October 2009; 1,006 people of them were from Slovakia, the TASR newswire wrote.
The survey revealed that the number of abstainers, that is people who haven't consumed any alcohol in the past 12 months, stood at 22 percent in Slovakia, close to the EU average of 24 percent. The list of abstainers is topped by the Portuguese (42 percent) and, at the other end of the list, the Danish (7 percent).
As regards the frequency of drinking alcohol, a mere 4 percent of those polled in Slovakia said that they drink on a daily basis.
Slovaks topped the EU-27 list when it comes to the relationship between drinking and the price of alcohol: 49 percent of Slovaks said they would drink less alcohol if the price rose by 25 percent.
