Švecová was a vice-chair of the Supreme Court and currently is the chair of one of the panels of its civil-rights college.

“Judge Daniela Švecová is a compromise candidate for the post of Slovak Supreme Court head,” chairperson of the Judges’ Council of the Trnava Regional Court, Andrea
Dudášová, told the SITA newswire. The head of the SC will be elected on the very last possible day, September 16, and the location was recently changed from the municipality of Spišské Hanušovce in the east of Slovakia to the Slovak capital.

The previous attempt to elect a new SC head on May 19 was unsuccessful, as none of the three candidates – outgoing chair Štefan Harabin, Jana Bajánková and Zuzana Ďurišová – received enough votes. None of them can compete in this round, though if nobody is elected on September 16, they can run again in a third round of balloting. The Supreme Court is now temporarily led by its vice-chair Jarmila Urbancová.
