WHILE the Dutch confectionery company Leaf built a production plant in Slovakia’s town of Levice to produce confectionery products for the western European market even before the global economic crisis, it obtained bigger growth only after it joined with the Scandinavian group Cloetta, the Trend weekly reported.
At the start of the investment Leaf originally spoke about a plan to invest here €40 million and employ 400 people. The current reality is that there were invested so far €80 million and the plant gives work to 700 people. Last year it produced as much as 20,000 tones of candies, which accounted for one quarter of the confectionery production of Cloetta. Only the former Bratislava-based Figaro chocolate producer, now in the hands of the Global confectionery leader Mondelez produces similar volumes. The plant has a space for increasing its output as its annual production capacity is 40,000 tonnes of candy.
