Switzerland to open its labour market

Font size: A - | A +

SWITZERLAND is the fourth country to promise to open its labour market to new EU member states. Following Britain, Ireland and Sweden, Switzerland has said it is ready to welcome Slovak workers, without them requiring special work permits or visas, the SME daily reported.

The move follows a referendum on the issue of foreign workers in Switzerland.

The move is subject to a quota system, with 3,000 workers from Slovakia being allowed in unconditionally. However, the Swiss Embassy in Bratislava has only around 1,500 workers registered as employed in Switzerland and that number is not expected to rise past the 3,000 mark.
