Talks with Russia on the upgrade of Slovakia’s air force technology, Russian MiG-29 fighter jets, could start within two weeks, Defence Minister Juraj Liška told the news wire SITA.
Liška has already contacted the Russian government and the manufacturer of the Russian fighter jets and expects that the Russian partner will submit the maintenance and upgrading schedule soon.
Slovak companies are also likely to participate in the upgrading of the military jets.
The Russian producer, RSK MiG, has certified the Trenčín-based company Letecké opravovne to service the MiGs, but the license must be re-approved by the manufacturer.
The Slovak Air Force upgrade plan assumes twelve functional MiG-29 supersonic jets, which would serve for at least seven to ten years.
