TEACHERS in Slovakia will be entitled to pay rises of between five and 20 percent as of July this year, provided parliament passes a draft law approving the proposal.
According to the Pravda daily, the cabinet especially aims to motivate young teachers to stay in what is seen as an underpaid profession. Higher pay increases are planned for young teachers.
According to the cabinet's proposal, teachers' pay will consist of two parts, the basic wage and the wage bonus. The new basic wage range is from Sk8,730 to Sk13,980 (€226 and €361). The wage increases will require an extra Sk660 million (€17 million).
According to the draft law, teachers should receive a pay increase every year.
