Teachers’ unions are demanding that the government introduces salary hikes for teachers and education employees by another five percent as of July 1, 2013, otherwise protests and the general strike are likely to resume.
In their appeal published on Wednesday, January 16, unionists also demand more money for education, legislative changes and cooperation with the Council for Systematic Changes in Education that was created in December. Salaries for elementary and high school teachers have grown by five percent since the beginning of 2013, the TASR newswire wrote. During the strike launched on November 26, 2012, unionists demanded salary hikes of ten percent and some changes in the education system and system of financing.
