Liptovský Ján - Vladimír Mečiar's threat to go on a hunger strike if he is forced to reveal secret information concerning his role in the 1995 abduction Kovač Jr. is a case of "gaining political capital out of standard investigation procedures," said Slovak Chief Investigator Jaroslav Igor at a Liptovský Ján press conference on September 23.

Ivor said that the investigation of the kidnapping has proceeded in a correct way and added that Mečiar "should know that giving testimony is one of the basic civic duties - a duty set by the law." According to Ivor, Mečiar's only reason for being reluctant to testify is the likelihood that his testimony will implicate himself or his close friends.
