The first Cuban-Slovak festival saw gastronomy and rolling of cigars

THE FIRST Cuban-Slovak festival that presented folk artisans and artists from Cuba took place on October 5 in the municipality of Babiná in the Zvolen district.

The festival had the motto “Let us not look for what divides us, but rather let us discover and develop what connects us”; and it was organised by the Zvolen-based Club of Friends of Cuba in Slovakia in cooperation with the Cuban Embassy and the Babiná municipality.

Cuban Ambassador to Slovakia, Loipa Sanchéz Lorenzo also participated; it was during the spring first visit to Babiná that the idea to organise a festival appeared, according to the TASR newswire.

Apart from crafts, there was also a cultural programme presenting local folklore ensembles and the Cuban troupe Los Cumbaňcheros. A Cuban master of cigar rolling came to present this specific craft. Traditional food was on offer as well, lomo de cerdo, which consists of pork, rice, beans and lettuce was one dish. The famous alcoholic drink, Cuba Libre (Cuban rum with Cola), was also part of the festival.
