The Foundation – The Centre of Contemporary Art has announced the winner of its 15th annual award for a young artist under 35. An international jury – comprising Anna Daučíková, head of the Studio of Video and Multi-media Creation at the Academy of Fine Arts; Sharon Kivland, a writer and visual artist from the UK; Alexandra Kusá, temporary head of the Slovak National Gallery; Lucia Tkáčová, expert assistant of the “IN” Studio; and Marek Pokorný, Czech reviewer, curator and head of the Moravian Gallery in Brno – decided that out of the four artists who made it into the final round (Petra Feriancová, Štefan Papčo, Pavla Sceranková, and Jaroslav Varga), the established Slovak artist Petra Feriancová would receive the award.
Judges described her work as conceptual, post-productional as well as emotional and she has mastered the levels and perceptions that are unique in Slovakia. As a winner of the prize, she will receive a 6-week residential stay at the International Studio & Curatorial Programme/ISCP in New York, a financial reward of €2,600, and the right to a solo exhibition at the Slovak National Gallery after she returns from her stay in New York.
