THE NATIONAL Receipt Lottery will change its rules in late September and start doing drawings every week, raising the total number of winners to 408 winners per month as opposed to the current 29.

The state-run lottery company Tipos decided to introduce changes as a reaction to its experiences from previous months and results of survey it ordered from Polis agency which conducted in June.

“Most of people preferred the possibility that more people would win [in lottery] understanding that the winning sums would be smaller,” Tipos General Director Ladislav Kriška told the press on September 3, as quoted by the TASR newswire.

Tipos will draw each seventh day with 101 winners instead of current 10. One winner will get main jackpot and 100 winners get €100, Director of IT Department and Internet Games Miloš Prelec told TASR.

The National Receipt Lottery, launched in September 2013 encourages Slovaks to collect receipts from their purchases in shops and restaurants by allowing them to be converted into lottery tickets. The idea is to help curb VAT evasion estimated at hundreds of millions of euros per year, largely through changing behaviours.

More than 85.4 million receipts were registered in the past year. Tipos paid €960,000 in winnings, gave away 21 cars and three vacations, according to Kriška, the SITA newswire reported.
