These doctors in the capital will cure what ails you

Most people avoid seeing a doctor at all costs. But if pain persists or illness invades then one has little choice but to grudgingly go to the doctor. There is nothing more important than being able to communicate with your doctor and of course you're better off in your own language.If your malady is not so urgent, you may contact one of the doctors that we list. Just call the medical center, ask to speak to someone in English, explain your problem, and they will set up an appointment for you.Generally, rates for dental work and other medical treatment are cheaper here than the West. The medical center, located on Štúrova 12 in downtown Bratislava has a variety of specialists, and is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 to 20:00.

Peter Hrúzik is a gynecologist who speaks English very well. His hours at the center are from 13:00 to 18:00 everyday. Lil Žurechová is an internist with a good knowledge of English, and is at the Medical center all day.

"Everyday there are doctors here that are able to speak English," said Žurechová "Our center has a dentist, neurologist, pediatrician, cardiologist, gastrologist, urologist, and an orthopedic doctor."

But, be prepared to pay cash. "We make separate bills for treatment and medication," said Žurechová. "So far, our experience has shown, that every foreign insurance company has covered the expenses incurred by our patients."

Another possibility to have English-speaking specialists is at Medius - privátne sanatorium (Medius - private sanatorium). They have three doctors that speak English. Ján Sporina is an internist, Dušan Kováč is a dentist, and Dagmar Gavorníková is a gynecologist These doctors are at the clinic Monday - Friday, 8:00 to 20:00, and on Saturday from 8:00 to 13:00. At Medius your payments also must be made in cash, and they only accept Slovak insurance companies.

Ľuboš Rehák has his own practice as an orthopedic doctor. His office hours are Monday - Friday from 16:00 to 20:00. He speaks very good English. At his private office, you must pay in cash.

The only state doctor on our English-speaking list is Klára Frecerová, a pediatrician at the National Institute for tuberculosis and respiratory diseases. You may call her at the hospital everyday from 8:00 to 17:00.
