Ruling coalition loses another MP as Igor Matovič is chucked out of the Freedom and Solidarity party.
The coalition managed to elect a new director of the combined public television and radio channel. Miloslava Zemková is an apolitical media professional who was head of the state radio channel under the previous Robert Fico government, will now be responsible for leading the TV station as well out of its deep financial and professional doldrums. The institution she takes over is at least 40 million euros in debt.
In business, a sunny economic picture grew even brighter with an announcement by Volkswagen’s Bratislava unit that it would be investing a billion euros over the next five years to boost car and car parts production.
And the good news even extended to sport, where Slovakia’s men’s ice hockey team christened the country’s new stadium in Bratislava over the weekend by winning the Slovakia Cup, an annual tournament for countries in the region.
