The National Criminal Agency (NAKA) reopened three murders from the late 1990s and 2000, in an effort to shed more light on the criminal activities of the “Sýkorovci” organised crime gang, named after its leader, Miroslav Sýkora.
A few of the nine people who stand accused in the case include alleged gang boss Mikuláš Černák (who is already serving a life sentence for other crimes), as well as the alleged boss of the Sýkorovci gang, Róbert L. (aka Kýbel), and head of Sýkorovci’s Senec branch Martin B. (nicknamed Rus), both of whom remain at large. Seven of the nine men have been detained or are serving prison sentences for other crimes, while the remaining two are wanted in connection with other crimes, the SITA newswire wrote.
Three murder cases were reopened and reinvestigated: the killing of alleged Košice gang boss Róbert Holub in 1997, the murder of an unnamed victim in 1998 and the 2000 murder of a man believed to be Juraj M., an entrepreneur from Bratislava who had been sentenced for illegal firearm possession and suspected of illegal car trafficking and murder.
