Three of the four members of the Ordinary People faction in parliament – Jozef Viskupič, Martin Fecko and Erika Jurinová – will remain in the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) caucus, it was announced after a SaS caucus session on Wednesday, February 16.
The three will not therefore become independent MPs like faction leader Igor Matovič, who was expelled from the SaS caucus after voting for an opposition amendment to the State Citizenship Act in parliament last week. Had the three left the caucus, the ruling coalition would have lost its majority in parliament, the TASR newswire wrote. Originally, the coalition had 79 MPs in the 150-member house, but it now has 77 after the expulsion of Matovič, and Andrej Ďurkovský’s earlier departure from the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) following a series of allegations relating to his time as mayor of Bratislava.
