Slovak police arrested three men who have been accused of corruption linked to the drawing of money from European Structural Funds and one of the accused is a former advisor to Lucia Nicholsonová, the current State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, the Sme daily reported.
Tomáš Richtařík and two accomplices from job mediation companies allegedly asked people for a 'commission' for helping them receive funds from the Social Implementation Agency.
Interior Minister Daniel Lipšic said that the accused had allegedly signed agreements with the companies and when the companies succeeded in receiving EU funds their 'consultants' were expected to receive a 30-percent kickback of the allocated amount.
Richtařík worked for Nicholsonová from July to September 2010.
“He was a person who had worked with Structural Funds and had even worked for the ministry, so I had only very good references on him,” said Nicholsonová, as quoted by Sme.
