Today is tax freedom day

June 18 has been dubbed “tax freedom day” this year by a taxpayers association as the first day on which Slovak citizens begin to earn for themselves after paying off the 46.8 per cent average tax and levies burden the national economy faces.

The date has steadily advanced from June 4 in 1999, the Dzurinda government’s first year in office, indicating an increasing burden of dues to the state in that time
