Slovak MPs, the President and government members won't have their salaries valorised in 2010 according to an amendment to the Income Tax Act signed by President Ivan Gašparovič on Thursday, November 12, the TASR newswire reported.
The measure was passed in Parliament through an amending proposal submitted by Smer MP Jana Laššáková and supported by both opposition and coalition MPs. Freezing these salaries should save the state about €398,000.
A member of the Slovak cabinet gets a monthly salary of 1.5 times the MP's salary. A Slovak MP's monthly salary is set at three times the national nominal average. Apart from the basic salary (and pay for committee work), MPs get perks such as an expense allowances and a refund for other expenses required by their post. As well, they can use public transport and the state-owned airplanes for free when travelling on business. TASR
