THE JUSTICE Ministry, lead by Christian Democratic minister Daniel Lipšic, wants to change a law on family to make divorce procedures more complicated.
According to the bill, a court will not approve a divorce if one of the spouses is against it and the divorce could seriously harm that person, the SME daily wrote. This, however, is provided that the partner opposing the divorce did not considerably contribute to the breakdown of the marriage.
In the bills’s white paper, the ministry wrote that the aim was especially "to financially secure the defence of economically weaker spouses, mainly in long-lasting marriages."
Several lawyers, judges, and MPs oppose the plan.
According to MP Eva Černá from the New Citizen's Alliance party, the billreveals the “16th-century thinking” of its authors.
