Representatives of the Trades Unions Confederation (KOZ) on Thursday, December 16, walked out of a session of the commission for drawing up a new version of the Labour Code after what KOZ vice-chairman Vladimír Mojš called the Labour Ministry's failure to come up with a coherent set of proposed changes, the TASR newswire reported.
The trade unions won't resume talks with the ministry until it gets its act together, said Mojš, adding that bilateral talks with employers are now on their agenda. The talks with the ministry were accompanied by protests by trade union members, who whistled and called out slogans such as "shame on you" when government representatives arrived at the ministry building for the meeting.
Head of the KOVO trade union Emil Machyňa told TASR that the proposed alterations to the Labour Code are unacceptable. Even if only a small portion of them were adopted, workers' social welfare would be harmed he said, adding that the trade unions are ready to go out on the streets and toughen their action, including via strikes and by blocking traffic and access to factories.
