Bratislava's municipal public transport operator, DPB, has completed the first and most difficult phase of the renewal of the tram line on Vajnorská Street in the north of the city, meaning tram number 4 to Zlaté Piesky will resume service from Monday, December 18. The X4 replacement bus service will simultaneously cease operating.

However, there will be some restrictions on selected sections of the line in the coming days, mainly due to the completion of stops and kerbs.

The reconstruction included modernisation of public transport shelters in the section Kuchajda - Zlaté Piesky. The project is now moving into the second phase, which mainly includes finishing touches and work on the Depo Jurajov Dvor - Zlaté Piesky section. This should be fully operational from March 2024.

"I am happy that we managed to complete the first phase in such a short time. The most difficult part is behind us. We still have finishing work and the repair of the next section in the direction from the depot to the final stop. However, tram traffic to Zlaté Piesky and to the city centre will be maintained," stated the chairman of DPB's Board of Directors, Martin Rybanský.

The reconstruction of the tram line along Vajnorská Street was necessary because only a small section had been repaired over the last 30 years. Its condition had deteriorated to the point that smooth passage at maximum speed was no longer allowed, and passengers were experiencing discomfort. Reconstruction began in October 2023.
