TRANSPARENCY International Slovakia (TIS), an anti-corruption NGO, called on political parties to present effective measures to fight corruption, saying their current strategies are not effective.
TIS President Emília Sičáková-Beblavá said that voters regard corruption, especially political corruption, as the fourth most urgent problem facing the country.
After studying the election programs of political parties, TIS said that the parties were not offering a clear vision of how to eliminate corruption in politics, to resolve conflicts of interest, to supervise the financing of political parties, the limit the immunity from prosecution enjoyed by members of parliament, or to minimize political influence in the state administration, the SITA news agency wrote.
In terms of the existing programs, TIS stated that the opposition New Citizen's Alliance of former Economy Minister Pavol Rusko had the best strategy for fighting corruption, followed by the non-parliamentary Civic-Conservative Party (OKS) and Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ).
