The best piece of legislation introduced by Iveta Radičová's government to fight corruption is the Act on Judges and Judicial Assistants, said Transparency International Slovakia (TIS) on February 13, as reported by the TASR newswire.
The Act on Judges and Judicial Assistants introduced the publication of court decisions on the internet, a public selection process for judges, and detailed disclosure of property owned by judicial officials.
TIS said second place in its assessment went to mandatory publication on the internet of contracts signed by state bodies, followed by another amendment to the Act on Judges and Judicial Assistants that introduced evaluation of judges in five-year cycles and publication of records about judges' work on the internet.
All three laws were introduced by the Justice Ministry headed by Lucia Žitňanská of the Slovak Christian and Democratic Union (SDKÚ).
TIS added that among the political parties’ parliamentary caucuses, the three that were most active in fighting corruption were the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), followed by SDKÚ and then Most-Híd party.
"The first place for KDH can be explained by its dutiful attendance at votes and the high number of active MPs compared to their total number (14)" stated TIS, as quoted by TASR.
TIS added that no MPs from opposition parties had received a positive score based on its analysis.
