A TRANSPARENCY International Slovakia (TIS) survey of the eight Slovak regional authorities known as the "higher territorial units" (VÚCs), says that they are open to corruption because they do not plan public procurement and lack internal control methods.
TIS maintains that the lack of control creates space for "corrupt practices and ineffective use of public funds", the daily SME reported.
The corruption watchdog says that Slovakia's Supreme Audit Office should keep a closer eye on the VÚCs' spending.
