The criminal trial of the so-called Sýkorky, an alleged Mafia group that was headed by the deceased Miroslav Sýkora, began on September 12, with two guilty pleas while the six remaining members of the gang who are on trial maintain their innocence, the Sme daily wrote on September 13.
Slovakia’s Specialised Court in Pezinok heard the request of one of the men to plead guilty and that other gang members and the public should be excluded from the courtroom, Sme wrote
The other accused men denied any wrongdoing, Sme reported. The gang is accused of 16 crimes, including an abduction for extortion, illegal possession of guns, and receiving extorted money. The defendants could face prison sentences of 20 years if found guilty.
