The meeting of the Social Partnership Council on the draft amendment to the Labour Code, which allegedly aims to provide greater protection for employees, ended in a dispute on March 26.
Labour Ministry State Secretary Emília Kršíkova reported that the reason for the early ending was the fact that a quorum was not met.
"Only two regular members of the Social Partnership Council who represent employers came to the meeting and that is why it was not possible to hold negotiations," Kršíková said.
However, the main representative of the Slovak Association of Employers, Rastislav Machunka, had a different explanation. He claimed that government representatives did not allow the tripartite members representing employers to replace missing members there at the session.
“As a result, the employers’ representatives have suspended their dialogue with the government for now, and will discuss the draft amendment with trade unions only,” he said.
