Slovak Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka on September 20 met coalition ĽS-HZDS leader Vladimír Mečiar in connection with the cracked compact disc (CD) that allegedly lists the clients of pyramid schemes/non-licensed companies BMG Invest and Horizont Slovakia.
Trnka later said that he hadn't provided Mečiar with access code to the CD. Trnka, his deputy, and chosen IT experts are the only ones who have access to the list and the code. Only with Trnka's consent can police or tax authorities be provided with the data.
Trnka said he had explained his plans concerning the CD and Mečiar seemed to have understood. Mečiar then replied that due to the plans of General Prosecutor's Office, he would not demand the code.
The General Prosecutor's Office, Trnka says, wants to avoid civil litigation, and that's why it won't publish data that has not yet been verified. There are now two computers with the lists of non-licensed companies' clients, and soon the fingerprints of the general prosecutor and his colleague will be encoded as part of the security arrangements surrounding this CD.
In the days ahead, Trnka says the General Prosecutor's Office will choose a sample of clients that had deposited large amounts of money, and these clients (10-15 subjects) will be verified by the Financial Police, which will look into movements on their accounts and other aspects of their finances. If the police can confirm the authenticity of the information, the General Prosecutor will begin sorting out the lists. TASR
