THE SLOVAK Telecommunication Office (TÚ) has started proceedings against mobile GSM operators EuroTel Bratislava and Orange Slovensko. The aim of the TÚ move is to increase competition in the market, according to the TASR news agency.
"The TÚ plan is to oblige the mobile operators to support effective competition and the development of the domestic market," said TÚ spokesman Roman Vavro.
The TÚ says the proceedings follow analysis of the mobile operators’ charges for phone calls in various telecommunications networks.
In the TÚ's view, it is difficult to see how a new GSM operator can enter the Slovak market given the dominance of Eurotel and Orange.
Currently, there are no other operators on the Slovak mobile market.
Both EuroTel and Orange have the right to comment on the TÚ's actions, to submit evidence or to complement evidence that is already before the TÚ.
