A man who shot dead a woman in Banšelova Street in the Bratislava borough of Trnávka earlier today is reported to have died after subsequently shooting himself. "According to the findings of an investigation, he shot the woman twice, wounding her fatally; she died on the site," police spokesperson Petra Hrášková said, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
Police received a report shortly after 7:30 that a shooting had taken place and that a man had fled the scene. About one hour later, after organising a search operation, police discovered an injured man in nearby Rádiová Street who matched the suspect's description. According to Hrášková, the man had apparently shot himself. He had with him a Škorpion 61 submachine gun which was not legally registered.
The Nový Čas daily reported that the man was the former husband of the victim and had previously been charged with threatening her with a gun. "The injured man was taken to hospital but died soon after arrival," Hrášková said, as reported by TASR. The police have launched an investigation.
