Two men have drowned while swimming in the river Váh in western Slovakia, local police have confirmed.
The tragedy occurred on Saturday evening, 16 August, near the village of Šúrovce in the Trnava district. According to the regional police directorate, four men, all Indian nationals, had entered the water together.
As they swam further from the shore, two of the group began to struggle. Despite immediate efforts by their companions, the men could not be brought back to land.
One victim, a 28-year-old man, was pulled from the water by friends but showed no signs of life. Emergency services launched a search for the second swimmer, aged 33, which continued into the late evening and resumed on Sunday morning. His body was eventually spotted by a police officer on the opposite bank of the river.
Police said both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Citing the sensitivity of the case and ongoing procedures, officers declined to release further details.
