THE OPPOSITION Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) has lost two more MPs. The party, led by ex-PM Vladimír Mečiar, is now down to just 23 MPs from the 36 who came to office after the national elections in 2002.
Eva Antošová was excluded from the HZDS on June 13 in a decision made by the regional Nitra branch. According to the regional HZDS leader, Ján Kovarčík, Antošová had to go because "her behaviour recently has damaged the interests of the party in regional as well as high-level politics", the SME daily reported.
In a reaction to that decision, Miroslav Maxon also decided to leave the party. Following a recent national meeting of the HZDS, Maxon criticized the election of the HZDS deputy chairmen. Antošová voiced backing for her colleague.
