Two Slovak soldiers deployed in Afghanistan apparently accidentally shot themselves, the Joj TV channel reported.
One of the soldiers reportedly shot himself when posing for a photograph but the Defence Ministry denied this, with ministry spokesman Ivan Rudolf telling the Sme daily “that he shot himself when manipulating a military device at a guarding gate of the Kandahar base.”
He seriously injured fingers on his right hand, was operated on the same day in Afghanistan and has returned to Slovakia to recuperate.
The other man was injured when engaged in combat shooting training. He shot himself in his big toe, but the injury was only slight and he remains at the Kandahar military base.
