THE TRNAVA District Court sentenced Slovenians Alen Ž. And Sebastjan M. to 23 and 20 years in maximum security prison, respectively, and ordered them protective supervision lasting for two years. Both were found guilty of arranging the illegal transport of components for illegal drug production in the case of the so-called Turkey truck case.
The ruling was issued after the previous decision from February was dismissed by the Trnava Region Court. It is still not valid as the accused can appeal it, the SITA newswire wrote on December 9.
Back in 2010 the truck from Slovakia was to transport a huge amount of acetic anhydride, a substance necessary for production of heroin, to Turkey. The delivery was monitored by the Slovak police who asked seven countries for help. They all were informed about the case. The aim was to deliver the substance to the person who ordered it. The police planned to detain him or her when taking the consignment, the TASR newswire wrote.
This, however, did not happen after the Turkish police did not allow the delivery to arrive at its final destination, but instead stopped and detained the driver, who did not know about the police action. The driver subsequently spent Christmas in custody and was banned from entering Turkey for one year. The Slovak Interior Ministry later compensated him with €25,000, TASR reported.
According to Trnava Regional Court spokesperson Viktória Pagáčová, the court found the two Slovenians guilty of illegal production of narcotic and psychotropic substances, poisons and precursor, their holding and trafficking, TASR wrote.
Except for this proceeding, there are another three held at the court. Together eight people are charged in the case.
