TEN years after Slovakia joined the EU, nearly two-thirds of the Slovak population think that doing so was the right step.
The Representation of the European Commission (EC) in Slovakia reported that up to 66 percent of Slovaks feel that they are EU citizens.
"For the majority, namely for 53 percent of Slovaks, the European Union means using the euro and the freedom to travel, study and work anywhere in the EU," said Andrej Králik from the EC Representation in Slovakia, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
He added that among the rights associated with European Union citizenship, Slovaks are most interested in working in other EU countries (49 percent) and living in other EU countries (46 percent). Slovaks are also interested in receiving medical assistance in any of the other EU-member states (38 percent).
Slovaks consider the most positive aspect of European integration to be the free movement of people, goods and services in the EU (75 percent), the euro as a common currency (47 percent) and peace in Europe (40 percent).
