The U.S. government is likely to decide by the end of October whether Slovakia has fulfilled all the necessary criteria for cancellation of the visa duty for its citizens.
Of specific concern is the number of refused applications for the last U.S. fiscal year, which will be known after September 30, Keith Hughes, spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Slovakia, stated in a press release. He added that the last two agreements necessary for the cancellation of the visa duty should be signed soon.
Interior Ministry spokesman Erik Tomáš specified that these are: agreement on exchange of information for screening terrorists or terrorism suspects and an agreement on intensification of cooperation on preventing and fighting crime. Both are now undergoing interdepartmental review. The Cabinet should deal with them on October 1 and the ministry expects that they will be signed in early October. SITA
