THE UNEMPLOYEMENT rate in Slovakia was measured at 12.25 percent in November, falling from the 12.35 percent recorded the month before. On an annual basis, the jobless rate shrank by 1.25 percentage points, the TASR newswire reported.
Job centres had 330,517 people on their files immediately available for work in November. Their number dropped by 2,740 on the month and by 33,716 on the year, the head of the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (UPSVaR) Marián Valentovič told a press conference on December 19.
When all jobseekers including those who were not immediately available for work are taken into account, the unemployment rate in October reached 13.86 percent, which represented a 0.07 percentage point drop month-on-month.
A total of 374,018 people, including those not immediately available to take up work, were jobless in November. This was a drop of 1,960 on the month and of 25,543 on an annual basis.
“What matters is that the drops are being observed in all disadvantaged jobseeker categories,” said Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Minister Ján Richter, as quoted by TASR, adding that the number of unemployed under the age of 29 was down by 12,000.
Month-on-month drops in unemployment rates were recorded in all of the country’s eight regions. Prešov region and Bratislava region recorded the highest and lowest rates, respectively.
Unemployment in Slovakia continued falling in November partly thanks to demographic developments, analysts of the Slovak National Bank (NBS) stated, TASR reported on same day.
“Unemployment developed relatively positively [in November] due to the growth in economic performance,” reads NBS statement, as quoted by TASR. “On the other hand, an important role in the unemployment rate fall was also played by the freeing up of capacities on the labour market due to the retirement of older generations.”
