Unemployment fell slightly in June

The unemployment rate in Slovakia stood at 14.25 percent in June, representing a drop of 0.01 percentage points in monthly terms, but a rise of 0.91 percentage points on an annual basis, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (ÚPSVaR) announced on Monday, July 22.

A total of 384,696 jobseekers were available to start working immediately, which was a month-on-month drop of 281 people and an increase of 24,184 on a yearly basis, the TASR newswire quoted the ÚPSVaR.

The Sme daily wrote in its Tuesday, July 23 issue that the ÚPSVaR registered 384,696 unemployed at the end of June.

In regional terms, the highest unemployment rate was posted in Prešov Region (20.1 percent), ahead of the Banská Bystrica Region (19.46 percent) and the Košice region (18.64 percent). With respect to individual districts, Rimavská Sobota (Banská Bystrica region) had the highest proportion of unemployed with 34.06 percent, while Bratislava’s IV district had the lowest at 5.4 percent.
