The unemployment rate in the Košice area reached 16.18 percent in January, which represents 56,819 people without work. This is the second highest unemployment rate in Slovakia, according to data published by the Office for Labour, Social Affairs and Family.
The highest unemployment rate in the area was in the Rožňava District, where unemployment amounted to 24.25 percent in late January, ranking the third highest among all districts in Slovakia. Spokesperson for the Rožňava Labour Office, Miroslava Spišáková, told the SITA newswire that the number of unemployed reached 7,150 which is an increase of 289 job searchers since December.
The Trebišov District registered the second highest unemployment rate in the area at 23.96 percent which was concurrently the fourth highest unemployment rate across Slovakia. Trebišov Labour Office director Jana Mondíková informed SITA that they registered 10,763 job seekers, including 5,343 women. SITA
