The number of unemployed people rose in six of Slovakia’s eight regions. The most significant rises were registered in Nitra (by 0.21 percentage points), Prešov (by 0.13 percentage points) and Trnava (by 0.10 percent) Regions.

By contrast, the jobless rate dropped in two regions, Trenčín and Bratislava, by 0.04 percentage points in both.

The Statistics Office forecast that the unemployment rate would decline in March as a result of the recovery of the labour market and the beginning of seasonal work. However, it said the employment rate could be negatively affected by the return of Slovaks citizens from countries stricken by the European debt crisis, SITA wrote.
