UNESCO Deputy General Director for Communication and Information Abdul Waheed Khan is to visit the University Library in Bratislava on Wednesday, June 17, TASR was told by Anna Polievková from the library.

Khan will meet the library management and will visit the information and documentation centre in order to learn about its activities in co-ordinating affiliated schools, clubs and UNESCO's 'Memory of the World' programme, which was set up to protect the world's documentary heritage.

In this context, he will examine a collection of precious Islamic manuscripts - the so-called Bazagič collection - which is on the Memory of the World list and is among the most significant world documents. Khan will hand over to the library certificates that UNESCO presents to new schools included in the global network of schools. At the end of his visit, Khan will also view an exhibition in the library's courtyard called Slovak Sites on the UNESCO Global Heritage List. TASR
