THREE students at Bratislava's Comenius University have been arrested and charged with fraud. The Law Faculty students were detained in custody in connection with a scam involving big profits from entrance and end-of-semester examinations, the Pravda daily reported.
The main reason for the detention is to ensure an independent trial and prevent witnesses from being influenced.
Jana Pôbišová, of the press department of the Interior Ministry, confirmed that the investigation is continuing and that more people may be charged in connection with the case.
As yet, no evidence that employees at the faculty were involved in the scam has come to light.
The three arrested allegedly relayed correct answers to students sitting examinations via a radio link. The perpetrators are thought to have earned around Sk4 million (€104,000) from the scam in the past two years.
