THE NATION'S Memory Institute (ÚPN) on September 25 published more records kept by the country's communist-era secret police (ŠtB), the TASR newswire wrote.

The records, maintained by counter-intelligence units on fighting internal and external enemies between 1969 and 1989, include 45 books with 38,800 records on subjects of interest to the ŠtB, said ÚPN spokesperson Michal Dzurjanin.

The information on this so-called normalisation period - during which the government was returning life back to "normal" after the Prague Spring - is vital to assess the state of society at the time, Dzurjanin said.

Related files have been released in their entirety in the Czech Republic.
