Upper Nitra floods claim at least one life

Extensive flooding in the Upper Nitra area on August 15 claimed a first victim, Lucia Garajová from the Interior Ministry told the TASR newswire. The storm lasting for several hours in Upper Nitra caused localised floods, with the towns of Handlová and Prievidza in Trenčín Region facing the most difficult circumstances. The overflowing Handlovka River submerged several roads in Prievidza shortly after noon as well as a road connecting Prievidza and nearby Handlová. “One person, a man from Prievidza, is missing, and unfortunately, one victim has been reported, too,” said Garajová, adding that the dead man was probably from Handlová though no exact information was yet available.
