Almost one half of all unemployed Slovaks have been looking for a job for more than a year, according to data published by the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (ÚPSVaR) on Thursday, March 29.
February's statistics show that the number of long-term unemployed in Slovakia is now 193,500, with the biggest number in Prešov Region (44,700). High figures were also reported in Košice and Banská Bystrica Regions, with 40,000 jobless Slovaks in each region looking for a job for more than a year.
The lowest number of long-term unemployed is in Bratislava Region (just over 5,000).
According to ÚPSVaR, job centres in Slovakia reported almost 412,000 job applicants in total in February, with 372,000 able to start work immediately. This represents an overall unemployment rate of 13.76 percent.
