Unemployment in Slovakia grew from 12.84 percent in May to 12.98 percent in June, up 0.46 percentage point year-on-year, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Office (ÚPSVaR) reported on July 20, the TASR newswire wrote.
A slight year-on-year drop was seen in the group of long-term unemployed - from 48.6 percent to 48.2 percent. This was mainly caused by seasonal jobs and by anti-flood projects which have created 6,696 jobs so far.
The statistics have been affected by new university graduates and school-leavers. Around 7 percent of job applicants (or 27,000) were from this group, which represented an increase of 0.5 percentage point month-on-month.
Slovak job centres reported 9,078 vacancies in June, which was 34 percent more than a year ago. "This indicates a gradual revival in the labour market in Slovakia," stated ÚPSVaR, as quoted by TASR.
