US PRESIDENT George Bush, in a letter to his Slovak counterpart, Rudolf Schuster, thanked Slovakia for the assistance its soldiers have provided to the US-led allies in Iraq.
A unit of 82 Slovak military engineers assisted the allies during the peak of the conflict and another unit may soon be sent to help the coalition forces.
On January 20 the state-run TASR news agency wrote that a 20-strong reconnaisance platoon will arrive in Iraq, while 35 of the unit's current members will return home and be replaced by 42 troops. There will be 109 Slovak soldiers in total.
