In line with an annex to its collective agreement in the United States, U.S. Steel Košice (USSK) is offering approximately 400 of its employees the opportunity to terminate their work contract with the company based on voluntary agreement, the SITA newswire wrote.
This measure involves first of all technical and economic staff. Compensation for voluntary resignation can reach up to the sum of fifteen monthly salaries, depending on the number of years served in the company, USSK spokesman Ján Bača confirmed to SITA.
Representatives of the trade union Metalurg as well as representatives of other unions have signed the annex to the collective agreement. A new organizational structure for USSK is to be effective as of September 1. People who decide to resign may do so from July 1 until the end of the month.
The U.S. Steel Europe division, which includes USSK and U.S. Steel Serbia, is part of the United States Steel Corporation, one of the largest steelmakers in the US. Products of USSK include steel, hot and cold rolled sheets, electro-technical plates, hot dip galvanized plates, organic coated products, hot-dip tin plates, spiral welded plates and heating radiators, as well as production and distribution of energy.
A four-day working week at USSK was introduced in early February due to the global economic crisis. Employees have received 60 percent wage compensation for the day spent at home. USSK is the largest industrial employer in eastern Slovakia with over 12,000 employees.
