THE RATE of illegal software decreased to 37 percent in 2013 from 40 percent reported in 2012, in contrast with the rest of world, since the global rate of illegal software installed in personal computers increased from 2011 to 2013 by 1 percentage point to 43 percent.
The financial value of illegal software in Slovakia was €48.7 million in 2013, while globally it was €45.5 billion. The Asia-Oceania region had the highest rate of illegal software usage, reaching 62 percent with a value of €15.25 billion. The Software Alliance BSA organisation ordered the survey, carried out by the IDC Company, involving 22,000 personal and company computer users, together with more than 2,000 IT managers, the SITA newswire reported.
Central and eastern Europe had the second highest rate of illegal software usage, with 61 percent, followed by Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, with 59 percent in 2013. In the EU member states the rate decreased by 2 percentage points from 33 percent in 2012 to 31 percent in 2013.
