Prime ministers of Visegrad Four countries, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, are concerned about the global rise in food prices, raw materials and energy, which represent an enormous burden for people, according to a joint communiqué of the prime ministers presented by Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radičová after the seven-nation summit on February 15 marking the 20th anniversary of this grouping.
According the leaders, the problem of prices cannot be resolved at the level of individual countries, but must involve the entire European Union. Therefore the European Council should discuss the issue at the next summit in March, said Radičová as quoted by TASR newswire.
Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and Chancellor of Austria Werner Faymann, who joined the summit in the afternoon, expressed their concerns about the issue.
“We believe that we'll find a solution for limitless speculative increase in prices,” said Radičová.
he premiers of the V4, Germany, Austria and Ukraine further adopted a resolution on the current situation in Belarus, expressing concerns about the state of human rights there after the dubious presidential election in December, and called for Minsk to release all political prisoners.
