Váhostav-SK announces mass layoff of 500 employees

One of the largest construction companies in Slovakia, Váhostav-SK, based in Žilina, will lay off five hundred employees, which is about a quarter of its staff members.

One of the largest construction companies in Slovakia, Váhostav-SK, based in Žilina, will lay off five hundred employees, which is about a quarter of its staff members.

The collective layoff, planned between August 8 and January 31, 2011, will affect blue-collar workers as well as white-collar employees in charge of technical and administrative issues, Andrej Thiel, the assistant to the company’s director general informed the SITA newswire.

The joint-stock company Váhostav-SK decided to reduce the number of its employees because it no longer needs as many due to the persisting decline in demand for construction works in the Slovak market posted during the past two years and because of the delays in highway construction, Thiel said.
